A comprehensive overview of the development of Hinduism from the early Upanishads to modern times.   

CR 104    Buddhism

A comprehensive overview of Buddhism from the time of its split from Hinduism to modern times.

CR 105    Islam

An in-depth analysis of the birth and development of Islam within the Christian Church of the times.

CR 111    Native American Religions I

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the Eastern United States.

CR 112    Native American Religions II

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the South-eastern United States.

CR 113    Native American Religions III

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the Mid-western United States.

CR 114    Native American Religions IV

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the South-western United States.  

CR 115    Native American Religions V

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the Western United States and Alaska.

CR 116    Early South American Religions

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the early Native South Americans.  

CR 201    Confucianism

A comprehensive overview of the development of Confucianism from the time of Confucius to modern times.

CR 202    Taoism

A comprehensive overview of the development of Taoism from the time of Lao Tsu to modern times.

CR 203    Other Eastern Religions

An overview of Shintoism, Jainism and other eastern sects which emerged from or with the dominant religions of the far east.  

CR 204    Scriptures of Confuscius and Lao Tsu

The Confuscian and Taoist scriptures will be read and compared to earlier writing of the Eastern religions.   

CR 205    Shamanism

Selected texts will be read to acquaint the advanced student with shamanism as practiced by cultures other than the Native Americans and Early Northern E uropean tribes.

CR 206    Druidism

This course examines the historical basis for Druidism and the three major threads of modern Druidic practice.

CR 207    Wicca

This course will examine the major threads of the Wicca faith and give the student an understanding of modern Wicca as both an individual and group practice.  

CR 301    Early Mid-Eastern Religions

The pre-Zarathrustra religions will be compared to Zoroastrianism and other sects which arose prior to the Judeo-Christian religions.

CR 302    Northern European Religions

This introductory course will examine Germanic, Nordic and Celtic religions and mythologies.  Suggested prerequisites: CR 101 and 102.

CR 303   African Religions

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native African tribes and peoples. 

CR 305    Shamanism

Selected texts will be read to acquaint the advanced student with shamanism as practiced by cultures other than the Native Americans and Early Northern European tribes.

CR 306    Druidism

This course examines the historical basis for Druidism and the three major threads of modern Druidic practice.

CR 307    Wicca

This course will examine the major threads of the Wicca faith and give the student an understanding of modern Wicca as both an individual and group practice.  

CR 370    Independent Study in Comparative Religion

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail.  Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.

CR 380    Independent Study in a Selected Religion

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail.  Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.

CR 390    Thesis in Comparative Religion

The candidate will write an original thesis on a topic chosen by the student and approved by the department.  Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of course work and permission of the department.  

CR 401   Advanced Studies in Judaism

A study of the evolving theology of Judaism from the development of the Ancient Church to the present times.

CR 402   Advanced Studies in Hinduism

A study of the Gods and Goddesses of Hinduism, their interactions and the priesthoods that evolved around each.

CR 404   Advanced Studies in Buddhism

A study of Buddhist philosophy and meditative practices.

CR 405   Advanced Studies in Islam

A study of the different sects within Islam and the modern Islamic movement among African Americans.

CR 406   Advanced Studies in Religion

The student is expected to select a topic for exploration within a specific religious path previously studied.

CR 411    Advanced Native American Religions I

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the Eastern United States.

CR 412    Advanced Native American Religions II

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the South-eastern United States.

CR 413    Advanced Native American Religions III

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the Mid-western United States.

CR 514    Advanced Native American Religions IV

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the South-western United States.

CR 515    Advanced Native American Religions V

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the Native Americans inhabiting the Western United States and Alaska.

CR 516    Advanced Early South American Religions

A comprehensive study of the mythology, theology, medicine, song and dance of the early Native South Americans.

CR 570    Independent Study in Comparative Religion

CR 580    Independent Study in a Selected Religion

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail.  Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.

CR 590    Dissertation in Comparative Religion

The candidate will write an original dissertation on a topic chosen by the student and approved by the department.  Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of course work and permission of the department.
