MIN 101        Ministry

A detailed analysis of the ministry and the duties of a minister or priest from a theological, psychological, metaphysical and philosophical viewpoint. 

MIN 102        Ministerial and Priestly Duties

The duties of the priest and servant of God will be outlined and discussed from a number of different viewpoints including Orthodox and Protestant Christianity, Independent Catholicism, Paganism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Yoga.

MIN 103        Pastoral Orientation

An orientation into the priest or minister as pastor of a community of believers and the duties of the priest or minister as regards that community.

MIN 201        Pastoral Care

An introductory course outlining the counseling duties of a minister or priest pertaining to birth, childhood, learning disorders, adolescence, young adulthood, marriage, alcohol and drug or substance abuse, family problems, child or spouse abuse, depression, suicide and suicidal attempts, criminal activities, temporary or terminal illness, middle age, old age, senility, and death. 

MIN 202        Ministry in the Multicultural Neighborhood

The special needs of the multicultural neighborhood will be studied with respect to the needs of the individual, small groups and the neighborhood.

MIN 203        Ministry with Children

The special requirements of bringing the word of God to children and working with children who have spiritual needs and concerns will be covered in detail.  This course will also consider the unique problems of the so-called nuclear family will be probed in depth to lay a foundation for the priest in working with members of these families.

MIN 204        Woman's Ministry

The emerging woman in American society offers the priesthood an opportunity to practice the principles of Christianity in their own lives.  In this course these principles and their attendant problems will be examined.

MIN 205        Ministry With the Gay Community

The special requirements of bringing the word of God to the gay community and working with those who have special physical and spiritual needs and concerns.

MIN 301        Homiletics I

Students will learn basic speech writing and presenting techniques and give one speech per week according to prescribed guidelines. 

MIN 302        Homiletics II

The techniques of speech writing and presenting will be studied from videos, films and written materials or demonstrated and modeled by practicing ministers and priests.   

MIN 303        Spiritual Coaching I

This course is an overview of the needs of the spiritual mind and body in relation to different counseling styles and philosophies.

MIN 304        Spiritual Coaching II

A continuation of Spiritual Counseling I which includes practical experience working with parishioners or other people in need under the supervision of a practicing minister or priest.                                    

MIN 330        Practicum in Spiritual Coaching

The candidate will coach several students and other people under the supervision of the Department.

 

MIN 340     Practicum in Ministry

The student will choose a mentor with whom they will learn the day to day activities of the ministry within their chosen path.

MIN 341        Practicum in the Priesthood

The student will choose a mentor with whom they will learn the day to day activities of the priesthood within their chosen path.

MIN 370        Independent Study in Ministry

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail.  Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.

MIN 380        Introduction to Thesis Writing

This course is required of all Master Degree Candidates prior to choosing a Thesis topic and all Doctoral Candidates who have not previously written a thesis.

MIN 390        Thesis in Ministry

The candidate will write an original thesis on a topic chosen by the student and approved by the department.  Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of course work and permission of the department.

MIN 401        Spiritual Healing

The practice and history of faith healing and modern medical practices around the world will be compared to spiritual healing.

MIN 402        Addiction Counseling

The student will counsel clients who admit to having an addiction to alcohol, drugs, food, glue, or other substances and who seek to overcome their addiction.

MIN 403        Homiletics III

Students will learn intermediate speech writing and presenting techniques and give one speech per week according to prescribed guidelines. 

MIN 404        Homiletics IV

The student will publish an acceptable paper regarding some subtopic of sermon writing and presentation or complete sermon.

MIN 405        Spiritual Counseling III

The student will continue learning counseling techniques in the field working with various populations including the terminally ill, homeless, feeble old aged and mentally ill.

MIN 406        Spiritual Counseling IV

The student will continue learning counseling techniques in the field working with various populations including addiction problems and criminal behavior.

MIN 470        Homiletics Practicum I

Students will practice speech writing and presenting under the supervision of a mentor.

MIN 480        Homiletics Practicum II

An advanced project more comprehensive than those undertaken in Homiletics Practicum I.

MIN 501        Liturgical Studies I

The liturgy of a chosen religion or denomination will be compared to several other religions or denominations to ascertain both similarities and differences.

MIN 502        Liturgical Studies II

The liturgy of a chosen religion or denomination will be rewritten to conform with the students personal insights and spiritual path.

MIN 503        Independent Study in Ministry

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail. Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.

MIN 504        Independent Study in Liturgical Studies

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail. Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.

MIN 505        Curriculum Development in Ministry I

The student will develop a curriculum for teaching introductory and intermediate courses in ministry to beginning and intermediate students.

MIN 506        Curriculum Development in Ministry II

The student will develop a curriculum for teaching advanced courses in ministry to advanced ministry students.

MIN 541        The Christian Liturgy

The student will write his or her own services for a number of situations and sacraments using various services of several Christian denominations.

MIN 542        The Gnostic Liturgy

The student will write his or her own liturgy for a number of situations and sacraments using various services of several sources.

MIN 543        The Orthodox Liturgy

The student will write his or her own services for a number of situations and sacraments using various services of several Orthodox denominations.

MIN 544        The Liturgy

The student will write his or her own services for a number of situations and sacraments using various services of several sources.

MIN 550        Practicum in the Episcopate

The student will learn the day to day activities of a bishop or comparable position within the faith of the student's choice by studying under the supervision of a bishop or comparable member of the episcopate.

MIN 580        Research and Publication

Required of all Doctoral Candidates prior to selecting a topic and writing their dissertation.

MIN 590        Dissertation in Spiritual Ministry

The candidate will write an original dissertation on a topic chosen by the student and approved by the department.  Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of course work and permission of the department.
